Indian Society of Wound Management
Indian Society of Wound Management (ISWM) was established in September 1996. ISWM aims to bring together clinicians and practitioners of varied fields with a common interest in wound healing. It comprises physicians, surgeons (general, plastic surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons), diabetologists, dermatologists, nurses, and basic scientists.
The Society also sets out to raise awareness about the need for a multidisciplinary approach to wound management. Its goal is to establish wound-care centers across the country with basic as well as state-of-the-art clinical and research facilities. Due to its efforts, dedicated wound clinics have been created in the teaching hospitals at Varanasi, Chennai, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Rishikesh, and Chandigarh. These clinics and centers cater not only to basic wound care but are also involved in research and advanced wound care. Presently ISWM has about 200 life members and more than 40 international support groups. ISWM is included as a sister Society of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies and is a member of the Asian Wound Care Association. In 2021, ISWM conducted virtually the joint annual congress of ISWM and the Asian Wound Care Association.
